What is a sinking fund?
A sinking fund is money you set aside gradually for a known future expense. Instead of letting a holiday, annual bill, new laptop, or car repair arrive all at once, you turn the total into smaller recurring deposits.
Pick a contribution you can repeat
A larger transfer reaches the goal sooner, but a smaller automatic amount may be easier to protect. Use the calculator to compare a weekly rhythm with a monthly one, then choose the version that fits how you are paid.
Give every punch a value
A twenty-slot card makes an abstract balance tactile. For a $1,000 goal, each punch can represent $50. For a goal with uneven deposits, punch only when the next threshold is crossed. The visual should clarify progress, not police every dollar.
For a practical setup, see our sinking fund savings challenge guide.
Keep your next deposit in view
Create a private savings card in Punchcard and punch each time you transfer the amount. Punchcard does not connect to your bank.
